Osteopathy provides a patient centred approach to healthcare and is suitable for people of all ages and for a range of health problems. Treatment is individually tailored for each patient. This is done by looking at the body as a whole and not just the problem area to address the source of the problem and to help prevent reoccurrence. It is a form of manual therapy for problems associated with muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints of the body.
The first consultation will last for up to an hour. During this time the osteopath will take details of your medical history and current symptoms. This will give the osteopath the information required in order to decide which areas should be examined further.
After examination the osteopath will discuss the diagnosis with you as well as the treatment and management plan. Treatment may involve a variety of techniques including soft tissue massage, stretches and passive movement of your joints to increase mobility.
